WKPG Update Dec 3 – Breaking News!

Last Step in Contract Finalization

Pinellas County and School Board Finalize Agreement;
Pledges Due to Close the Deal

December 3, 2024, TARPON SPRINGS, FL

The WK Preservation Group (WKPG) is excited to announce that the sales agreement between Pinellas County and Pinellas County Schools has been finalized, bringing the 14-acre West Klosterman Preserve to the last step of attaining permanent protection.

To meet the terms of the agreement, WKPG and their partner, Pinellas Community Foundation, will now collect the remaining pledges by December 10, 2024, to complete the $3 million purchase. The transaction will close by April 2025. This is the final push to secure the funding needed to preserve this important green space.

We need all pledges finalized by December 10 to ensure the land is saved,” said Tex Carter, WKPG president. “The community’s support has been incredible, and now we’re in the final stretch to protect this land and its endangered species.”

The preserve will protect critical habitats for species like gopher tortoises, migratory birds, and rare plants. The preserve continues to serve as a stormwater mitigation site for the community.

Nearly 2,000 donors have supported WKPG since its founding in 2020. After this acquisition, WKPG will continue its mission to preserve vital ecosystems in Pinellas County.
