The project is WKPG’s latest collaboration with Pinellas County to preserve threatened natural space. The effort
encompasses three adjoining properties with more than 29 acres of waterfront and aquatic habitat. The goal is to
bring the properties into County ownership, protecting this natural area from future development and preserving it
for generations to come.
Skycrest Properties LLC owns two parcels totaling 28.53 acres, the conservation centerpiece that includes the island,
some coastal upland and the surrounding aquatic property along Duhme Road south of 51st Avenue N. CKC
Properties II LLC owns an adjacent 0.61-acre vacant corner lot on Duhme Road near Cherokee Drive, a parcel that
could provide property access for the nature preserve.
No. The acquisition has not yet been finalized. WKPG has memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with the property
owners that establish the intent for the properties to be acquired for preservation purposes. Once agreed with WKPG,
the County is expected to prepare formal purchase documents based on those agreements.
The current plan is for Pinellas County to acquire the properties and preserve them as public conservation land.

WKPG’s role has been to bring the property owners and the preservation effort together and secure their
commitments at favorable terms for the County. WKPG has helped make preservation possible by advocating for
the land and working with the owners. WKPG will continue to work with the County after acquisition on restoration
and use of the preserved properties.

County officials have been briefing the Board of County Commissioners about the proposed acquisition. The
County’s real estate legal team is expected to draft the purchase documents. If the process stays on schedule and
the property owners remain committed, the goal is to bring the agreements to the County Commission for
consideration and approval in the 4th quarter of 2026.
The goal is to preserve the properties and restore portions of them toward natural conditions, protecting the area
for generations to come. Specific restoration plans and timing have not yet been finalized.
WKPG’s mission is to help protect important pieces of local land from development and preserve them for the
community. The Duhme Road effort represents another opportunity to further that mission with the creation of
another permanent preserve for the plants, animals and people of Pinellas County.
