PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. [Sept. 22] —  WK Preservation Group is working with Pinellas County on an opportunity to protect 29.14 acres along Duhme (Doo’mee) Road in unincorporated Pinellas County, including waterfront and aquatic habitat, from future development.

The proposed Duhme Road Reserve project would bring private property into public ownership, creating opportunities for future public access to this unique waterfront area comprising coastal upland, waterfront and aquatic habitat.

WK Preservation Group has worked with the property owners to secure their willingness to sell the land for preservation. Pinellas County is now moving through the process required for purchase, which is expected to come before the Board of County Commissioners for final consideration this fall.

If the acquisitions move forward, future plans will include restoration of portions of the property, along with passive use and access. Details about the properties’ eventual use and public access are still being developed. Two parcels totaling 28.53 acres along Boca Ciega Bay are owned by Skycrest Properties LLC, and an adjacent 0.61-acre parcel to the south is owned by CKC Properties II LLC.
